These socks were inspired by the crime scene tape put up around crime scenes, which is where the X's come from. This pattern is super fun to use for wild colored yarn because the texture still shows up while also being able to see the color. The pattern is written for a contrasting colored cuff and toe, but change it up however you'd like!

The instructions are written to accommodate the magic loop method but are easily worked using double-pointed-needles if preferred!

Sizes: finished foot circumference of 7 (8, 9) inches, or 17.75 (20.25, 23) cm around the widest part of your foot

  • Sample is shown in size 8” (20.25 cm), modeled on a foot with circumference 7.75” around the widest part
  • If you are between sizes, I recommend sizing up after ensuring that you can meet gauge

Needles:

  • Size US 1 / 2.25 mm DPNs or long circular needles for magic loop

Yarn: 300 (320, 340) yds fingering weight sock yarn Main Color and 70 (75, 80) yds fingers weight sock yarn Contrast Color

  • Sample used Loop & Whorl Fiber Co – Psycho Sock Set, in colorway Crime Scene Do Not Cross

Notions: tapestry needle, stitch markers
Gauge: 32 sts x 40 rows = 4” x 4” stockinette stitch, worked flat
